HOW WE TEST

Evidence levels

Every CMS profile states which of these it is based on, near the top of the page:

Evidence What it means
Vendor docs Facts are taken from the vendor’s own documentation, changelogs and pricing pages, each listed in Sources. We have not used the product ourselves for this page.
Official demo We have worked through the vendor’s public demo in addition to the documentation.
Installed We have installed the CMS ourselves from its official distribution and worked through our editorial task list on it.

We never describe a product as tested unless it is at the “Installed” level.

What we look at

Our profiles are organised around what editors and publishers need day to day: editorial roles and workflow, revisions and scheduling, search and structured-data controls, feeds and syndication, media handling, multilingual publishing, performance, extensibility, and the cost of running it.

Scores

We plan to publish scores for each CMS once every platform in a category has been installed and put through the same editorial tasks, so that scores are comparable. Until then, profiles carry facts, specifications and trade-offs but no scores. When scoring starts, the method and weights will be published on this page first.

Keeping pages current

Software changes. Each fact in a profile carries the date it was checked, and we review profiles when a major version is released.
