On 5 April 2006, phpWordPress staff wrote that they had “officially launched” a brand new website that day. It introduced a template gallery, a site gallery “and much more”, and users were asked to report any problems.

The archived news page carries almost the same text under the date 3 April 2006. The two records differ by two days, and we cannot tell whether the forum post was delayed or the news entry was dated early. Both are the company’s own pages.

The archive of the redesigned site includes a template gallery page and a page of customer sites, which fits the announcement. Templates were central to the product: the 2.52 release had introduced a new template system in 2004, and a gallery gave buyers a way to browse designs before they bought.

phpWordPress was a commercial PHP article manager from Spoonlabs. It was renamed Vivvo in July 2006 and was unrelated to WordPress. The new site went live about a month before the 3.2 release and about three months before the rename, after which the website and its contents moved to a new domain. The release history places these events in order.
